Umbrello Malaysia is a 100% Malaysian-owned family business, incorporated and headquartered in Kuala Lumpur. We were founded on a straightforward observation: the Malaysian market for premium outdoor umbrellas was under-served. Why the Shadowspec range
Shadowspec's umbrellas are hand-built in New Zealand from marine-grade aluminium and stainless steel - the same material specification used in coastal and offshore applications where corrosion resistance is non-negotiable. The canopy fabrics are 100% solution-dyed, meaning the colour is locked into the fibre rather than printed onto the surface. In our climate - sustained UV at 10–12 index for eight months of the year, monsoon rainfall measured in hundreds of millimetres per event, and coastal salt air in most of our major resort markets - this specification matters in ways that a product-page photograph cannot convey.

What we actually do
We are not a catalogue. We do not drop-ship and move on. The buying process for a commercial-grade outdoor umbrella - specifying the right cantilever arm length for a rooftop wind exposure, selecting the base system for a heritage-tiled terrace, calculating fabric degradation timelines for a beachfront property - requires conversations, not a checkout button.
Our work is specification-led. We can visit the site. We assess the structural load points, the solar orientation, the prevailing wind direction, and the surface finish requirements. We produce a written specification that an architect can take into a tender, or a homeowner can review alongside their interior designer. Then we supply, install, and stand behind the product.
For larger commercial projects, we can provide CAD blocks, technical data sheets, wind load certificates, and fabric fire ratings - the documentation that procurement teams and architects need for compliance sign-off. This is not standard practice among umbrella suppliers in Malaysia. We intend to keep it that way.
